With a special July 4th edition of The Drop comes a patriotic salute to what is surely one of the year’s most anticipated betas.

Soon enough, everyone will be able to join in on the UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception Multiplayer Beta, as it opens on Tuesday to all PSN users. PlayStation Plus members have been enjoying early access to the beta all week, but its time we open things up!

Also, this week – the Earth needs some defending! Sunshine, barbecue and fireworks will come in between you and the apocalyptic arthropod uprising in Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon.

Sony PS3 Slim Overiew 250 Gigabytes, the Pros and Cons

The first thing to note about the PS3 Slim is certainly design. . It is a split opinion in the office so far, and although this reviewer thinks that the design is an abomination, others think it is actually nicer than the original
differences are: the design is very similar, but a third smaller. So it actually looks like something smaller brother to the original PS3.
Performance
Once you get through the new-look design, despite the leaner, more energy-efficient innards, the PS3 is still basically the same animal.
After you have turned out the differences end. The interface is the same. The controller is the same – even if you DualShock 3 controller instead of the standard SIXAXIS -. A user is the same comforts we

Sony Files Motion to Dismiss PS3 Other OS Class Action Lawsuit

To quote from Groklaw (linked above): Thereï¿½s news from the class action litigation, In re Sony PS3 ï¿½Other OSï¿½ Litigation, where the plaintiffs are suing Sony Computer Entertainment America for removing OtherOS from Playstation 3s. SCEA has filed another motion to dismiss the class action case, once again saying that the plaintiffsï¿½ newly filed First Amended Complaint is insufficient to state a claim. The original complaintï¿½s claims, except for one, were dismissed, with the judge giving the plaintiffs a chance to refile. Now that they have, SCEA says this refiled complaint should be tossed out also. There will be a hearing on all this on May 12th.

Sony Adds PS3 Firmware 3.60 Auth on PSN, CFW Patch Incoming

Last week [url=http://www.ps3news.com/PS3-Online/PS3-Firmware-3-60-System-Software-Update-Live-Details-Arrive/]PS3 Firmware 3.60[/url] was released, and as of today Sony has updated the platform authentication passphrase for PSN resulting in Custom Firmware users (via [url=http://www.ps3news.com/PS3-Hacks/official-fckpsn-v0-6-with-ps3-console-id-hiding-is-released/]FckPSN[/url] and similar methods) being blocked, however, according to IRC reports a CFW patch update shouldn’t be far off.

To quote from PSX-Scene (linked above): ï¿½We are expecting sporadic PSN maintenance from approx 9am-3pm PST Thursday 03/17/2011. We apologize for the inconvenience.ï¿½

That message was the last thing that CFW users got to see today, later after the network was back up everyone found they been kicked off their PSN!

Sony has finally enabled the new v3.60 auth system which was found hiding in the new firmware they had released last week!
