Golden Axe and Guerilla War Coming Free to PlayStation Plus

PlayStation Store Director [b]Grace Chen[/b] has announced today that both Golden Axe and Guerilla War are coming for free to PlayStation Plus alongside Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood this month.

To quote: July is packed with amazing PlayStation Plus content – including Assassins, Fighters, Guerrillas, Axe-men, and much more – all coming in two publishes on July 12th and 19th.

Five years ago on February 24^th, British developer Criterion Games brought a gritty, explosive and incredibly stylish FPS to PlayStation 2. Its name was Black. Designed with the intention to do for shooting what Burnout did for racing – tear it apart – it was one of last generation’s more impressive shooters, its emphasis being on firearm aesthetics, function, action and real-world behaviour.

Before the game’s Senior Designer Stuart Black joined Codemasters to begin work on Bodycount, Black 2 was allegedly on the cards, but because of a difference of opinion with publisher Electronic Arts plans were scrapped indefinitely.

Fortunately I know a guy in possession of a serviceable PS2 Slim and a copy of Criterion’s gun porn spectacular, so I have someone I can call on whenever I’m in need of a quick fix. However, like all good things this arrangement won’t last forever, which is why Black needs to be added to the PlayStation Store’s catalogue of downloadable titles.

Mortal Kombat Online Pass Waived

Mortal Kombat, the latest gory fighter from the folks at NetherRealm Studios, was one of the many games affected by the long PSN outage. The competitive, online component of Mortal Kombat is governed by an online pass, which comes packaged with new copies of the game (or can be purchased from the PlayStation Store). Users must enter this “Kombat Pass” in order to play online, which is currently impossible with the PlayStation Store down…

European PSN Game Store Updates for April 20, 2011

First of all – you asked for it, we listened – in the Latest section you’ll find a new tab called ‘New This Week’, which is exactly the way the old Latest section used to be.

So if you want to see everything that’s dropped in the update, that’s where you should head first. Don’t say we never do anything for you.

We’ve got loads of gaming goodness for you this week, including the launch of The Fancy Pants Adventures, Battle: Los Angeles and Red Johnson’s Chronicles.

Fancy Pants Adventures tasks you and up to three friends (online or offline!) with traversing the line drawn world in search of your kidnapped sister – if you’ve played the Flash game of the same name you’ll know the score. This version turns the Fancy Pants formula up to 11 and comes highly recommended.
